When was the last time you spent time alone, away from all the hustle bustle? Humans are said to be social beings but according to experts our relationship to self is foundational to all other relationships, including that with the natural world.  A solid relationship to self is grounded in solitude -the capacity to be alone. Often being alone is misunderstood as loneliness, social aloofness or a trait of being an introvert. However, spending time with yourself can benefit one in so many ways-

  • ENHANCES CREATIVITY
    Creativity flourishes when one is alone in peace, away from outside influences. Explore your abilities and interests. You may come up with something that will change your life.
  • BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF YOUR TRUE SELF
    Spending more time alone gives you a much better understanding of how you truly feel about things going on in your life. It gives one clarity of mind and understand what one truly wants.
  • GOOD FOR EMOTIONAL WEELBEING
    Being in company with yourself has the power to reduce the levels of stress and refresh one’s mind. Amongst teens, it has been found to reduce depression.
  • BETTER SOLUTIONS TO PROBLEMS
    Distancing yourself from people for some time and thinking about problems in life can help one to come up with better solutions to problems. What caused it, how it can be solved becomes easy.

     

    Alone time need not be boring, it can awesome and productive by following ways-

  • READ A BOOK THAT YOU ALWAYS WANTED TO
    We all have a list of books we always wanted to read but because of our busy schedule and noise we fail to do so. This is the best time to get your hands on a good book and read it in silence.
  • TREAT YOURSELF
    Take yourself out on a date. It could be a shopping, movie or a dinner date. The key point is enjoying your company and pampering yourself. We mostly do these activities with our friends. Doing so alone can boost one’s confidence levels.
  • KEEP A JOURNAL
    Create a journal of your own private thoughts. This is a way for some to get to know themselves better and find out more of who they are
  • DEVELOP NEW HOBBIES OR BRUSH ON THE PAST ONES
    We all have some hobbies such as sewing, photography, painting or so on. Use this alone time to improve your hobbies. If you don’t have one, cultivate one by trying new things such as gardening.
  • EXERCISE
    Now is the best time to work on yourself. What better way than putting on your running shoes and getting fit?

 While many are afraid to spend time alone be courageous enough to do so and cultivate a relationship with yourself. Be in peace with your company. Focus on how your mind shifts from one thought to next, make a bucket list of places you want to travel or pen down your goals and work towards achieving them.
